Southern Councils Group extends across the Illawarra and South East of NSW.

The Illawarra Region begins just south of Sydney covering 8,485 square kilometres stretching from Helensburg in the north to Durras Waters 228 Kilometres to the south and centers of Bowral, Moss Vale and Mittagong to the west and is bounded by the ocean to the east. It has a population of 405,000 people with a growth rate that is above the state average.

The South Coast Region stretches from Durras in the north to the Victorian border in the south and is bounded by the Great Dividing Range to the west and the Tasman Sea to the east, covering 9702 square kilometers with a population of over 65,000.

The climate in the Illawarra and South East is warm and humid with moderate to high rainfall. Coastal areas annual average temperature ranges are between 11 and 22 degrees Celsius. Inland annual average temperatures range between 7 and 19 degrees Celsius.

The Illawarra and South East Regions operate on Eastern Standard Time (EST) – the same time zone as 80% of the Australian population.
